History

In 1981, a small group of dedicated people banded together to make the dream of a pregnancy center in the local area a reality. In May of 1983, Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center opened its doors and saw its first clients, providing life affirming counseling and practical assistance. Since then, Amnion has served thousands of women and family members from the diverse populations of Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties.

Amnion began its ministry providing counseling to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of women, men, and families facing the issues of unintended pregnancy. The hallmark of Amnion counseling services is our ability to stay involved with a client long after the pregnancy test, beyond the immediate crisis of decision, and beyond the delivery. The rising tide of abortion grief led Amnion to expand our services to include post-abortion counseling. Over the years, such supportive services have enhanced the counseling program. Classes now include parenting, childcare, and childbirth education.

Amnion services took a giant leap forward with the addition of the RealEd Relationship Education Program. RealEd reaches area youth with a strong message of premarital sexual abstinence and purity. With several well-trained presenters, Amnion is now reaching more than 5,000 students each year.

Starting with a single employee and a handful of volunteers in 1983, the staff of Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center has grown to include full and part time employees and a wonderful group of committed volunteers from the greater Philadelphia area. For more than 30 years, Amnion has ministered to individuals, families, schools, local churches and local community organizations.

In 2014, Amnion was awarded a NIFLA Grant through Focus on the Family, which allowed the ministry to begin the diligent training and facility work to allow us to offer ultrasounds to our clients. In the second quarter of 2015, with God’s blessing, ultrasounds will be available to our clients, and our staff and volunteers will grow to include a Medical Director, Nurse Manager, and Radiologist.

Since 1983, thousands have sacrificially given financially for the work of Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center. Numerous supporters who make small monthly contributions supply the majority of our operating budget. New growth is possible through the generous donations from individuals and foundations. An annual fundraising banquet and walk-a-thon bring together people representing more than thirty local churches, linking arms to support Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Center's work in the community.
